IKUKO® Care FAQ
Simple guidance for caring for your solid-wood meditation bench.
IKUKO® is made from solid wood and designed to age naturally. With a few simple precautions, your bench will retain its comfort, softness, and character for many years.
How Should I Use IKUKO® Safely?
Always place IKUKO® on a flat, stable surface. Before sitting down, make sure both legs are resting fully on the floor.
Always seat in the kneeling position.
When sitting down or changing position, avoid shifting your entire weight onto one leg. Excessive pressure or tilting to one side could damage the leg or the wooden component that holds it in place.
To adjust the bench’s position, lift yourself slightly off the seat and move IKUKO® with your hand. Avoid sliding the bench from side to side while remaining seated, as this places significant stress on the joints.
If you notice any looseness, cracking, or other irregularity, stop using the bench temporarily and contact us. We will be happy to assist you.
How should I care for my IKUKO® every day?
For regular care, simply wipe your bench with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
Because wood is a living material, its surface may occasionally feel slightly rough or dry due to seasonal changes, indoor heating, or variations in humidity. If this happens, lightly sand the affected area with fine-grit sandpaper—220 grit or higher—following the direction of the wood grain.
Only light pressure is needed. This will help restore a smooth, soft surface without altering the natural character of the bench.
Avoid using household cleaners, abrasive products, or excessive water.
Do I need to apply oil or wax after a few months or years?
No additional treatment is required. IKUKO® will naturally develop a beautiful patina over time through use and exposure to daylight.
If you wish to refresh or protect the surface, you may apply a clear oil or wax formulated for wood. Since IKUKO® is finished with a natural oil, choose a compatible, colourless product.
Apply a very small quantity with a clean, soft cloth, spreading it evenly over the entire surface you wish to treat. Always test the product first on a small, discreet area and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
The legs of my IKUKO® Original no longer fit as tightly as before. What should I do?
After years of use, repeated assembly and disassembly, and natural changes in the wood caused by humidity or dryness, the removable legs may gradually fit less tightly than when the bench was new.
This can usually be corrected by applying a very small amount of suitable wood adhesive or filler inside the leg connection to restore the original fit. The adjustment is simple and generally takes only a few minutes.
